ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Sylvia Hamilton Goulden is an award winning artist exploring movement, energy and emotion, expressed through the mediums of watercolor, acrylic, monoprint, collage and assemblage, and video.
Her artwork has been described as having a ''joie de vivre" that reflects her dance background. Whether filled with bold colors and kinetic energy, or a softer, lyrical approach, her paintings project an exciting vitality that has delighted viewers at her extensive California exhibits. Her curiosity and sense of adventure allow work in several mediums which have been enthusiastically received, and have a place in many private collections in the United States and abroad.
Before focusing primarily on painting, Sylvia was co-director of FreeFlight Dance Company, an innovative group that performed in art galleries and museums, designing improvisational dances inspired by the artwork on exhibit. She has devoted many years to visual and performing arts learning programs, leading workshops for teachers, children and community groups as an Artist Specialist in So. California. She was also the Executive Director of Bethune Ballet Dance Outreach, arts program for disabled children.
Sylvia is a currently President of Collage Artists of America, is a member of Women Painters West, Valley Watercolor Society, California Art League, Los Angeles Experimental Artists, was a founding director of Artist Co-op 7, and was active on the board of VIVA Art Gallery. She has curated dozens of exhibits and continues to teach and lead art workshops.
